Claire Panosian Dunavan, MD, is an infectious diseases specialist with a second career in journalism. She attended Stanford, Northwestern Medical School, and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, followed by internal medicine residency at Northwestern and fellowship at Tufts. She then moved to UCLA, first serving as chief of ID at L.A. County Olive View Medical Center, then as the principal tropical medicine expert at UCLA. In 2005, she co-founded UCLA's Program in Global Health; in 2008, she was president of the American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene.

Her work has appeared in the LA Times, Scientific American, Discover Magazine, New York Times, Washington Post, NEJM, & more. Her recent documentary about a globalizing, foodborne parasite is airing on PBS stations. Her 番茄社区app column, 鈥淥f Parasites and Plagues,鈥� explores lesser known infectious diseases.
